Qigong
Autumn send this info to me.. very interesting!
I wasnt familiar with Qigong, so a friend of mine sent me this info below. Fabbo! It is a healing discipline that uses the divine and scrumptious glorious Universal Healing Energy that by the way, is moving through every one of us at all times, we have just forgotten how to harness it for our own, and others, benefit. As I say on my meditation site:
we ALL have Universal Life Force healing energy coursing through us and around us, we just need to know how to access it and use it. You see, we have forgotten how to operate the machinery!! The "users manuals" that should have come with us all at birth was lost centuries ago.. More..
This is great, have a read:
Qigong
Qigong is an ancient (5000+ years) energetic
discipline that generates, circulates and balances
internal energy flow. The chinese believe that
illness is caused by energy stagnation, which leads to
disharmony and disfunction of internal organs. Qigong
practices include slow meditive movement, self massage
(to release stagnant energy, a form of acupressure)
and cultivating energy. Qigong can be used for
prevention and treatment of disease, strengthening the
body, improving intelligence and extending longevity.
It is the foundation of acupuncture, martial arts, and
tai chi.
The gentle movement practices (one of which is tai
chi) are many and varied. They're designed to tone
and allign all the internal organs and their systems
and to instensify the flow of energy along the full
length of specific energy meridians. They're called
things like the five elements, the ten steps, five
treasures, 11 precious sets, or, my favorite, 8
brocades (and of course all of these have tons of
different names, it's crazy how many different
excercises and variations their are, but I bet if I
was 5,000 years old I'd be pretty complicated too :D)
Self massage, or acupressure, is basically just
tapping on certain points on your body to restore you
when you are tired, increase vitality, strengthen the
immune system. An example is the K27 (K standing for
kidney) point which is right below the protrusions of
the collar bone. Tap on those two points for a minute
and it's crazy how it'll just pick you right up. Now
hand massage is also super cool since the hands feet
and ears are the outer extremities, so all energy
meridians run through them. A few examples are
massaging the different lines in the palm of your
hand. The top one closest to the fingers, sometimes
called the line of emotion, can be massaged to promote
circulation. The middle one, line of intellect, is
the nervous system, the lifeline, or the one closest
to your thumb, is the difestive and respiratory
system. The fingers correspond to emotions, which
correspond to element, which corresponds to organs,
it's all very interconnected, I need a chart, but for
example the ring finger = wood element = liver and
gall bladder and nervous system =anger. So massaging
your ring finger would stimulate your liver, which in
turn would help break down pent up emotions of anger.
So the last third that I organized this stuff into is
the cultivating of personal energy. The Dan Tien
point, two inches below the belly button, is our
center place, and the battery of personal energy. To
increase energy you first bring it in from around you
using nature, such as moonlight, or a plant. and
associate yourself with the right people ect.
To accumalate energy is to build it up inside yourself
(using the movement excercises, and meditation). Then
to refine the energy ok, this is kinda complicated,
but the 12 internal organs hold and store negative
emotions, or the negative part of good emotions. so
to refine the energy the negative has to be broken
down into purified components. Therefore you can move
beyond emotions and cultivate the virtues. Anger
(from the liver and gall bladder) turns to kindness.
Joy (heart) turns to honour and respect. All the
different virtues combined together are called
goodness. Lastly, you must then circulate the purified
chi you have stored through the meridian system.
